The red is the color of the Confederate battle flag, the white (silver) saltire the old Infantry color, the blue & gray saltire recalls service in the 29th "Blue and Gray" Infantry Division in two world wars, the gold fleur-de-lis represents action in France. During the Civil War the regiment's ancestor, the 1st Virginia Brigade, earned for itself and it's invincible commander, General Thomas J. Jackson, the imperishable name of "Stonewall".
