The enlisted NCO promotion list is published and distributed at least annually. This affects all soldiers above the rank of E4. The main purpose of the list is to determine who can go to NCO schooling and then obviously who is predicted to be promoted to the next rank. If a soldier is "above the line" that means they will need to schedule the next level of NCO schooling if not already completed. It will also let you know where you stand within your MOS and peer group. Every soldier should ask their first-line supervisor to show him where he stands on the promotion list. The list of current NCO professional development schools and dates is in the unit orderly room. If you fall above the line on the promotion list, you need to apply for the NCO school for your next rank if you are eligible.
